Reminder: Upcoming Events in University Governance | April & May

Dear all,

We want to remind you of some upcoming events in University Governance for our faculty and staff.

April 26, 3-4 p.m.: Excused Absences Policy Informational Session

As you all know, the University Senate voted to approve a new Excused Absences Policy (USRR Article II). Because we know you might have questions about how this policy will work in practice in your classes, we are hosting a panel this week to address policy and process for the amendment.

  • Rachel Auten (Director, Student Support and Case Management)
  • Tammara Durham (Vice Provost, Student Affairs)
  • Susan Klusmeier (Vice Provost, Academic Success)
  • Ani Kokobobo (University Senate President; Chair Slavic, German, and Eurasian Studies)
  • Susan Williams (Charles E. & Mary Jane Spahr Professor; Chair, Chemical and Petroleum Engineering; Faculty Athletics Representative)

We invite those of you with questions to attend. The group will share a brief presentation and answer your questions. If you are unable to attend, the event will also be recorded, and we will share informational materials on the University Governance site.

Details:

Postponed - April 28, 1-2 p.m.: Public Forum with CFO

The public forum with CFO Jeff DeWitt has been postponed and will be rescheduled for May. We will announce the new date soon, and re-invite all those who responded to the calendar invite.

May 4, 3:15-5 p.m.: University Senate with Guest Speaker Travis Goff

University Senate is hosting a special session with Travis Goff, Director of KU Athletics. He will give an update on KU Athletics and answer community questions.

May 12, 1-2 p.m.: How to Write for the Public | Part 2

The team from Made by History—Brian Rosenwald and Kathryn Brownell—will review the nuts and bolts of op-ed writing and then help participants think through ideas for potential op-eds. This will include advice on finding news hooks, where to pitch ideas, how to structure pieces, and answering any questions that participants have.
