  4. Hollie and Humberto can help the committee with Standing Charges #1 & 2 as needed, but the assistance from the committee is necessary.

Standing Charges #1 & 2

  1. Continue to review and as needed make recommendations on how the University may better accommodate access of International Student’s to supportive services.

  1. As needed review and provide input on new policies that relate to international studies, research, teaching, and exchange programs.

    1. A request was made to identify responsibilities for committee members.

    2. Standing charges are addressed as needed, and specific charges need to be prioritized.

Review of Specific Charges

  1. Regarding specific charge #1, Charlie Bankart would provide a regular update on the Steering Committee of the Office of the Provost’s ACE Internationalization Lab and how it is operationalized at the institutional level. The International Affairs committee has already been connected to the Steering Committee due to the previous chair’s work on both committees, and the last year’s committee recommendations from the International Affairs Committee were already reported to the steering committee.

  2. Specific charges #1 and 4 are closely aligned as both charges are related to the Internationalization Lab.

    1. Specific Charge #1: Support and provide input to the Steering Committee of the Office of the Provost’s ACE Internationalization Lab as it prepares reports and recommendations to university leadership regarding the appropriate governance procedures that should apply to new University policies and other matters affecting international studies, research, teaching, and exchange

    2. Specific Charge #4: Review final report and action plans from the Office of the Provost’s ACE Internationalization Lab and provide recommendations to SenEx regarding how to promote KU’s internationalization efforts and future strategy.

  3. Specific charges # 2 and 3 may be reviewed together because they address the policy implementation proposed by the Office of Global Operations and Security (GOS).

    1. Specific Charge # 2: In consultation with the KU Office of Integrity and Compliance, review and provide recommendations to SenEx regarding the development or implementation of policies proposed by the Office of Global Operations & Security (GOS) that will affect international studies, research, teaching, and exchange.

    2. Specific Charge #3: In consultation with the KU Office of Integrity and Compliance and University Senate leadership, identify ways to ensure KUIA’s direct and continued leadership in public communications and the development of policies that relate to international affairs. Promote greater visibility for KUIA with the Office of the Chancellor and greater engagement of KUIA by GOS with respect to all matters pertaining to international affairs and foreign nationals at KU.

Next Tasks for the Committee

  1. The committee will review the AY2020-2021 International Affairs Committee governance report submitted and the policies related to international affairs to brainstorm ways to address AY 2021-2022 specific charges (Please find both documents on Teams.).
