Reports

Student Senate Report

Reporter: Henry Whalen

Holidays in Higher Ed event is coming up on Dec 3, 2025, in Allen Fieldhouse. This is an event that Student Senate puts on each year for faculty and Kansas Legislature to advocate for higher ed at the legislative level. All are invited.

Higher Ed Day is on Feb 4, 2026. Student Senate will go to Topeka to meet with Kansas legislators. We’re working on a cohesive plan of items to lobby for there.

We still have money left in the Wednesday Night and Community Development Funds, and plan to continue allocating that to the various student groups.

Staff Senate Report

Reporter: Marissa Marshall

Ricky Pulley, Jr. with SAPAC, presented at Staff Senate last week.

Robert Waller also presented part of his dissertation for feedback regarding a budget scenario in which there is a university budget cut.

The Staff Senate Provost Leadership meeting is on Friday.

Faculty Senate Report

Reporter: Misty Heggeness

KBOR’s efforts at clarifying the Tenure and Workload Policy are moving forward. The KBOR employee that has been leading the effort is retiring this year.

Faculty Senate plans to have a strategy discussion regarding how to be a prominent voice in Governance amidst all the transitions with One KU. Misty plans to have a broader conversation in Fac Ex.

Governance may need to reconfigure in some ways so that faculty across all campuses have a voice.

University Senate Report

Reporter: Poppy DeltaDawn

Lynne Vanahill, Director of International Student Support Services, and Shawn Wettlaufer, Senior International Advisor will be speaking at this week’s University Senate meeting (Nov 20, 2025).

Had Provost meeting last Friday and brainstormed about how to make shared governance more efficient here at KU.

New Business

There was discussion about updates to the Student Senate Constitution and what route the review process takes. The Policy Office suggested it go through the full review process.

Student Senate Constitution updates - including the addition of the School of Professional Studies – would be revisited at the Sen Ex meeting on Feb 10, 2026, so it can go through 7-day notification to stakeholders prior to the University Senate meeting on Feb 19, 2026.

There may be 90-credit degrees piloted soon. Poppy visited with Provost Bichelmeyer about this and wanted to loop the group in.

Meeting adjourned.
