Reports—
Student Senate Report
- Student Senate has Higher Ed Day where about 15 KU students are going to Topeka to lobby on behalf of KU and meet with state legislators and senators.
- Making good progress on the homecoming initiative, the platform that Henry and Andrew ran on. They’re putting together a committee with university faculty in hopes the weekend next year can be meaningful for students, faculty, and alumni.
- At end of month, Henry and other Student Senate Executive staff are going to “Big Twelve on the Hill” in Washington DC to lobby for post-secondary education at the national level.
- Student Senate has about 20K left in their Wednesday Night Fund as of last week, but after everything goes through for this week, there will be about 16K left.
Staff Senate Report
Marissa e-mailed a report which was included with the agenda and minutes that were sent out previously :
The Staff Senate Docking Institute Ad-Hoc Committee has completed the targeted feedback sessions and are working on finalizing recommendations and a report for University leadership and scheduling a campus-wide presentation.
There was a robust conversation about the recently announced compensation changes. We shared staff concerns at our Provost leadership meeting last week.
Some of these concerns may be addressed at the upcoming provost virtual town hall and we are potentially following up to invite Chari Young to a Staff Senate meeting pending information shared at the town hall.
University Senate Report
Provost candidate interviews are going on. SenEx members should have received an invitation for the interviews.
Topics that have been discussed in the interviews are shared governance and Provost Office collaboration with shared governance along with academic freedoms.
Provost Bichelmeyer will be joining the University Senate meeting on Thursday.
Unfinished Business —
The Student Senate Code updates do not need to go through the full process and therefore the changes were recently sent to Provost and Chancellor.
We don’t have quorum today so we can’t vote today on these topics:
- We’re planning to add an ex-officio member from Academic Affairs to the Academic Policies & Procedures Committee (AP&P).
- Technical changes: A change in the unit’s name from Office of Graduate Studies to Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs.
- RRB Committee: this involves Shayla guest facilitating the next meeting.
A committee member asks if these items can go out for an e-mail vote.
The AP&P membership update to include an ex-officio member from Academic Affairs is a code change so it would be best to do in a meeting, but the other items can be sent out for an e-mail vote from SenEx.
Meeting adjourned.
