University Senate Report
Josh reported the following.
- SenEx met on Tuesday. There are several items we are working on. We have a proposal from a committee in the College proposing changes to the Grade Replacement Policy.
- Dual Employment Policy. KU HR made some changes due to Fair Labor changes. We are trying to find out how we can help.
- There will be more dialogue on Excused Absences Policy.
- We are working on a letter about the Gateway District. Send questions to Josh.
Unfinished Business —
There was a discussion on research funding issue.
Comments/questions:
- Is there a discussion about academic freedom taking place around the K-12 issue?
- A private major grant was lost in Astronomy and Physics that was focused on DEIB. This will affect graduate students.
- The Union has information on Academic Freedom on the website. There was a proposal that was agreed upon.
- The changes are going to affect students’ planning for next year. What information are students getting?
There was a discussion about whether the CODE should be updated to specify a liaison to UAKU.
Another change to the CODE is the FRB membership and the AAUP member.
Another CODE change is if “tenured “can be changed to “non-tenured” for the Faculty Rights Board Committee. There was a discussion on this. This will be discussed at FacEx and return to the next Faculty Senate meeting.
CORE 34. The Chancellor has not brought up the CORE 34 issue with KBOR, as other issues are more pressing. Sam asked for feedback on how he should deliver the CORE 34 Faculty Senate letter to KBOR. Suggestions were to deliver it in person, if possible. There was a discussion about the future of CORE 34.
Meeting adjourned.
