Approval of Previous Minutes —
Meeting minutes from March 2 and April 6, 2023. Motion to approve by Ani Kokobobo. Seconded by Josh Arpin. Motion passed unanimously.
Reports—
Faculty Senate Report
Reporter: Nate Brunsell (Faculty Senate President)
Nate gave an update on COACHE. He said they will be reporting results of the meetings with faculty across campus to the provost next Thursday. He encouraged all to attend in person.
University Senate Report
Reporter: Ani Kokobobo (University Senate President)
Ani thanked Nate for his support and work for the past year. Ani encouraged all to attend the COACHE event. The provost and chancellor will come to report how they will implement the results. She hopes to have the reorganization of University Senate approved soon. This will provide more equity for students and staff senates. Ani is grateful we have the University Senate organization at KU. Ani thanked all for their service.
New Business —
FY2024 Meeting
Nate Brunsell welcomed all and turned the meeting over to Victor Gonzalez, 2024 Faculty Senate President, who presided over the 2024 Meeting.
Victor welcomed all. The Faculty Senate President Elect was the first order of business. Victor nominated Sam Brody for the position. Ani Kokobobo said that Sam has been on the Faculty Executive Committee the past year and she appreciated his involvement. Sam Brody introduced himself and said that he is in the Religious Studies department and has been at KU since 2014. He likes being involved in University Governance because it is where faculty meet. He enjoys the University Senate where faculty, staff and students come together, and he feels this is important. He values the aspect of the job where everyone has a voice, and the structure is not hierarchical. Amanda Mollett made a motion to elect Sam Brody. Ani Kokobobo seconded the motion. All were in favor. None opposed. Motion passed.
Faculty Senate Executive Committee members were discussed next. Ani Kokobobo nominated Sam Brody. She explained for the sake of quorum, she thinks the president and president-elect who must attend, should be voting members. Kristin nominated Becci Akin. Nate Brunsell nominated Victor Gonzalez. Ani nominated Kristin Villa. Amanda Mollett nominated Cambrey Nguyen. Nate explained that FacEx is a good place to have your voice heard as FacEx sets the agenda for Faculty Senate. Russ Ostermann was nominated. Josh Arpin was nominated. A voting poll was launched. Victor, Kristin, Sam, Becci, Cambrey, and Josh were elected to the Faculty Executive Committee.
Everyone introduced themselves. The 2024 meeting was adjourned.
