Approval of Previous Minutes —
Sam Brody was presiding. Sam announced the previously scheduled guest speaker, Barbara Bichelmeyer, was unable to attend. The Senate did not have a quorum.
Reports—
Faculty Senate Report
- Sam attended the KBOR meeting in March. He attended the Academic Affairs standing meeting where Monhollon, previous guest speaker at Faculty Senate, reported. He expressed he is willing to keep working with Faculty Senate on issues.
- Chairs and directors received KBOR Faculty of the Year announcement. Senators are also eligible to make nominations. This year a non-tenured track award was added.
- The tuition assistance survey is still ongoing.
- The FRB membership committee change is still awaiting the Chancellor’s approval.
- Faculty Senate elections are still open for voting. There is still room for one more nominee for a three-year term.
- The next meeting is the organizational meeting. The Provost will speak before the organizational meeting, which will be for appointing and voting for FacEx and elect.
- In the State budget, there is an approval to remove pronouns for signatures. There are no guidelines on this yet.
University Senate Report
- Josh reported that Travis Goff will be the guest speaker at the special session of University Senate.
- University did not vote on proposals for Code changes due to not having quorum at meeting.
- The organizational meeting is in May.
- At the last meeting CAPS spoke at the University Senate and they provided resources.
- A survey was sent for Jayhawk Hub, a tile created in Canvas for centralized resources. We are gathering data for the next steps.
- SenEx has been involved in the dean searches.
Josh responded to a question about KU email as the official means of communication with students. Jayhawk Hub will be a resource for students.

New Business —
Sam shared a draft document on the Faculty Senate Resolution to support International Community at KU. This was shared with FacEx members. Senators provided feedback and suggestions for the letter. The attending Senators were in support of the resolution and Sam proposed sending to the entire Faculty Senate for a vote of support.
There was a discussion on the Gateway District. Josh updated his work on fact finding for the project. He hopes to get information from Travis Goff.
Sam shared an article from March about the DEI issues mentioned in budget discussions.
