Reports—
Unfinished Business —
Discussion of reorganization of University Senate. Ani has been discussing this with Rick. One part that is problematic is that the Code can be changed immediately. Ani incorporated language into the proposed code that it cannot be changed without a two-thirds vote, to avoid instability. She asked for feedback. We will need to update the SenEx committee makeup also. There are currently eleven members. We will update to twelve, divided equally. It is easier to be odd, but then we would not have equity. There are sixty-three members on Senate now. We can have nine members on SenEx. It seems reasonable to have nine on the executive committee to represent a total body of fifty-four members on the University Senate, about the same percentage as we currently have, 16% instead of 17%. Kristin proposed nine members would be better because of the quorum issue. Nate asked who in FacEx must be ex-officio. Ani, Nate, and Victor are ex-officio. Next year, the president and president-elects should run for FacEx, so we do not have this problem next year. We are still going to have to figure out how to fill the Senate Body, since we do not have a full list of nominees to fill all the spots available.
New Business —
There was a discussion on quorum and the recently resigned members: Corey Maley and Betsy Barnhart. Faculty Senate needs to vote to make the ex-officio members voting members.
Nate is heading a search in his department and will be busy the rest of the week. There was a discussion on proxy voting and Suzanne and Caty will explore this further. Jeff Chasen spoke about revising voting rules and following Robert’s Rules in the executive committee.
