University Governance

Dear all,

We have a lot to report from the past month in University Governance! Staff Senate has published two newsletters covering recent updates and future activity. The Staff Senate Fall 2023 Newsletter contains reports from each of their six standing committees, as well as a letter from the President. One of those standing committees, Diversity & Inclusion, bi-annually publishes its own newsletter, which features D&I resources and spotlights directly tailored for staff at KU. The Fall 2023 issue of the Lens highlights programming from the Office of DEIB and Fulbright programs for staff. We encourage you to check out both newsletters to learn more about Staff Senate and opportunities to engage in important work at the university and in the Lawrence community!

Over in University Senate, members of the Executive Committee (SenEx) have been busy meeting with both the Kansas Board of Regents and the candidates for the ongoing dean searches (School of Engineering and School of Music). The committee will provide their input and recommendation to the search committees.

The Planning & Resources (P&R) Committee has also been busy over the past month as they prepared for the recent Public Forum with CFO Jeff DeWitt. This event was an important outcome of the Shared Governance initiative and the FY2023 Advisory Group’s recommendations, and we look forward to hosting the CFO in years to come. If you could not attend the event or would like to reference any information that was shared, there will be a recording available soon.

Senate Meetings

We have a series of important speakers lined up for Senate meetings this fall! Attending Governance meetings is a great opportunity to hear from campus leaders and gain insight into how University Governance functions. See below for the upcoming schedule and meeting information.
