Nominations Open for Staff Senate Elections

Dear Staff,

Staff Senate elections are approaching, and we encourage you to participate in the 2023-2024 year! With open seats in all job categories to fill this year, Staff Senate needs representation from all areas, all departments, and all job functions. You can self-nominate or nominate a colleague through March 4th at this link.

Staff Senate is the governing body for staff at the University of Kansas, representing all full-time university support staff and unclassified professional staff at the Lawrence and Edwards campuses.

Our mission is to provide all staff with a voice, a forum, and avenues for growth. This is accomplished by:

  • Providing a formal mechanism for communicating common concerns to appropriate University and State officials
  • Serving as a forum for member presentation and discussion of common concerns of employment
  • Supporting all forms of employee growth through in-house training and professional development financial support

Here are a few great reasons to serve on Staff Senate:

  • Network and collaborate with other KU colleagues and campus partners
  • Learn more about KU, Governance, and higher education administration
  • Be part of a proactive group that ensures staff involvement in major decisions at KU
  • Represent 3,000 staff at KU and advocate for those staff who do not have a voice

Members are encouraged to get involved as much as possible, with time commitments including:

  • 1.5 hours per month for Staff Senate meeting
  • 1 to 1.5 hours per month for volunteer senate committees
  • More information on committees is available via https://staffsenate.ku.edu/committees

Elections for Staff Senate will be held from March 19 through March 25, 2023. The April Staff Senate meeting will be a transition meeting from the current to the newly elect Staff Senate, with the May Staff Senate meeting being the first full meeting of the newly elected Staff Senate. If elected please plan to join the transition meeting on April 12, 2023, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Best Regards and Rock Chalk!
