October '23 Updates from University Governance
Dear all,
Fall Break is just around the corner! Business has really kicked off within University Governance. Student Senate will soon be holding elections for a record freshman class. Meet the Student Senate Executive Branch and read the first of a series of monthly interviews from the University Daily Kansan with Student Body President Turner Seals and Student Body Vice President DaNae Estabine.
Our Governance committees are getting started organizing their efforts for the year with new chairs, members, and charges. The Academic Policies & Procedures Committee has already wrapped up public hearings for active program discontinuance and the Planning & Resources Committee will be co-hosting the upcoming Public Forum with CFO Jeff DeWitt (details below).

CFO Public Forum
Monday, Nov. 6, 2:30-4:30 p.m. | Burge Union Forum C | Zoom TBA
University Governance is sponsoring a hybrid public forum with Jeff DeWitt, KU’s Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice Chancellor for Finance, as an outcome of the Shared Governance Advisory Group recommendations. The CFO will give a short presentation on KU’s current financial situation and plan, which will be followed by questions from the audience. Kristin Villa, University Senate President, and Jin Feng, Chair of the University Senate Planning and Resources Committee, will facilitate.
We recommend that you watch the Chancellor’s budget update with the CFO from Spring 2023 to learn more about KU’s finances ahead of time. Attend the forum to ask questions about the following topics and more:
- Working the state’s budget into KU’s long-term financial planning
- Strategic enrollment management
- All-Funds Initiative
- Continuous Improvement Program
- The ongoing Competitive Pay Study
You can also submit questions if you anticipate not being able to attend.
The forum will be recorded for record-keeping and may be made available at University Governance’s discretion.
