Discussion of Final Report
The committee discussed the current draft of the final report, as prepared and edited by Dave Ekerdt and Beth Benfield, respectively. Members can comment and suggest edits within the document shared on Microsoft Teams.
The committee discussed Standing Charge #4 and how it is not logistically feasible. In place of this, the committee can coordinate with HR to advertise the positions to retired staff and faculty. Involvement in both this committee and the Endacott Society can also be prompted within the retiree checklist. Caty suggested adding a temporal element to the charge to improve clarity and make the task more actionable. For example, the best time for the committee to seek retiree involvement may be the end of the fiscal year.
The committee discussed the need for further work in ensuring that all information is clear and that the Retirees Handbook is updated and accessible. The charges should be updated to reflect this, as well as a schedule for conducting regular surveys.
Dave asked whether the reorganization of Human Resources will impact the business of the committee. Caty and Amy Mendenhall reported that it will likely not. Our contact (Madi Vannaman) will stay the same, at least for now, and hopefully the reorganization will result in increased services for retirees.
The committee discussed Specific Charge #2 and how this body should be involved in the Town Hall meetings.
Next Steps
Co-chairs Beth and Patrick will coordinate an ongoing draft of the final report, while Caty will prepare a draft of proposed charges for the final meeting. These will both be discussed and finalized at this meeting for submission to the University Senate Executive Committee.
