New Business

Ed Hudson,  Vice Chancellor and Chief Information Officer at the KU Lawrence and Edwards campus

  • Ed kindly received questions from the group (ahead of time) that span across many topics and has come to talk to the committee and share additional IT background.
  • IT is striving to be “partners” with the KU community and wants to understand what people are wanting to do and accomplish.
  • IT suggests a “planned” retirement approach if possible.
  • Ed explains that retirees keep their e-mail, but there is more scrutiny surrounding security with some other services.
  • The cost of continued licensing and support is also under tight funding. It becomes challenging when someone is no longer an active employee (to support them) because IT doesn’t know what kind of technology they’re using.
  • IT does get calls from retirees regarding IT troubles they may be having, and they’re happy to answer those calls where IT is able.
  • A challenge for down the road is that KU is retiring more people than hiring. The retiree population is getting larger, but it’s not a problem now to offer support services when retirees call with questions.

The committee thanks Ed for his time and insights.

FY 2025 End of Year reports are discussed. The committee plans to convene again in early April to review items for the report.

Meeting adjourned.
