Strategy Office Overview: Corinne Bannon
Corinne Bannon shares an overview of the Strategy Office and how the office is integrating the One KU initiative + how they are measuring success and monitoring metrics:
- Jayhawks Rising – Corinne went to several departments / units to get input from constituents.
- Corrine became Chief Data and Strategy Officer – How can we measure success, and how are people doing?
- One KU Office: It’s a group that’s growing of senior representation managers. They will be assisting with the One KU reorganization and structure.
- Corinne’s Office will support these leaders, and all things that go into this. Some things typically wouldn’t be an issue but may need to be revised with the One KU reorganization.
-
Another key component of the Strategy Office is “Jayhawks Rising”. We want to continue Jayhawks Rising but we’ll be elevating to One University.
- There will be an announcement in the new year that will look similar to Jayhawks Rising. We already have a One KU mission: Our values will stay but no matter what campus we’re on, we know what those metrics are and what we’re working towards regardless of the campus.
- Finance, HR – building those connections between the campuses. We’ll be hearing a lot about this in the new year.
- Corinne still leads AIRE – when you fill out your timecard, vacation, financial transactions, or anything that has to do with institutional data. Corinne’s team builds a warehouse so they can build effective tools through OAC and help people make effective decisions.
- We integrate those data tools through Strategic Alignment. If we see a strategy isn’t executing, then may need to shift
- The “new” thing is trying to do this across all campuses – building that collaboration in a collective spirit.
KU and Jayhawks Rising is really us examining how we’re operating as a university and what we want to achieve in our mission and supporting that in how we operate. The metrics are bound to move.
- Our retention metric : the gap between first generation and second generation. We’ve raised the overall retention from 1 to 2. This takes a lot of various units working together. When you see those metrics moving, it creates momentum with Jayhawks Rising.
- Corinne: We really want to support the staff we have and compensate effectively and use discretion in adding more position lines.
- It’s not that we’re setting a metric to “not” grow personnel – we still need growth. If we know where we want to go together, how to look at personnel and know where we need more support and less support. The top priority is we want to support our people and compensate them at “market pay.”
- We’re trying to manage rather than do cuts later. We need HR Business partners to do that.
The University Cabinet : Senior leaders are in these meetings on Monday morning. These individuals meet consistently and has been very helpful.
Hope to launch new University Strategic Plan in August – still use Jayhawks Rising, but in a One KU Context.
The Strategic Alignment Presentations will be publicly available. It would be helpful to review those. In January, all the academic units will be presenting. Corinne would appreciate the committee’s feedback on this.
Strategic Plan: Can’t have a plan without having the resources to implement. Something we think a lot about. This committee’s feedback would be very helpful in that development.
Jason Hornberger updates on VSIP: There is quite a bit of paperwork and details in working through retirement plans. The retirement date would be May. Applicants have opportunity to back out of it (about a month and a half).
Wrapping up financial report and we’re in a good cash position, which is important for university. Jason will send Missy the financial report. Doing some alignment with the CFO Office for next year.
Missy will provide the information from Corinne and Jason to the group.
Next meeting scheduled for January 29th at 11:00am. Heather Blanck plans to join.
Meeting adjourned.
