Unfinished Business —

Mugur Geana gave an update on the GRF based on activities from previous years.

Bozenna mentioned she would like an increase in funding, not a decrease, which has happened in recent years.

Candan Tamerler, Office of Research, discussed where the funds come from. The funds are contingent upon the approval of the Kansas budget by the legislature. The funds are distributed through the Office of Research.

The VCR delegates responsibilities to the department (entity) and they determine how the funds are disbursed.

The Research committee can assess how well the departments are using the funds.  The committee can determine how the GRF reaches goals. This committee can make recommendations.

The committee discussed GRF. Comments made:

• The funds are decreasing.
• When the general fund decreases, so do these funds.
• Why is the GRF funding decreasing?  What justifies a cut in funds?
• Are there any statistics on GRF funding and the impact?
• How successful was the distribution? What measures the impact?
• GRF is an internal fund award.  GRF is decreasing. 
• The Office of Research is offering new awards for faculty.  There will be more awards for faculty.
• How is the GRF being monitored? Each unit determines distribution, reviews, and reports. This committee can access those reports.
• The committee has important work.  We can work together.
• The members present each report about what they hope to commit to the committee.
