Unfinished Business —

Bozenna Pasik Duncan presided as chair. The committee did not have quorum at the meeting.

Candan made comments on the strength and importance of the Research Committee. Candan reminded members she is an ex-officio member. A discussion followed on research productivity and how to measure it. The following comments were made:

• The GRF allocations were recently revised with amounts revised based on research faculty. We ended up with basically the same procedure as before. 
• The hope is that the next committee will tackle this with AIRE as we have more data now. 
• The committee needs more communication and involvement.
• In the past two years, the committee has not seen the JOUR data referenced. 
• They have access to the AIRE data, but they are not sure how to use it effectively.
• How do you measure success on the impact of research?
• We look at research analytics. You can ask AIRE to generate a report.
• The associate deans provide info on GRF to the Office of Research
• New members would be helped by guidance on what are the actual tasks committee members are expected to do.
• Candan offered suggestions, making it clear that she is an ex-officio member. The committee can do assignments for each other. 
• Members can offer their strengths to the committee.
• Members need a “seed” to start. Agreement that the committee needs to have a common view of what the committee needs to do.
• Suggest that the committee form a sub committee and work with AIRE. Xiabo, Chris and Katie agreed to work on this.
