New Business —

This is the committee’s first meeting. The committee introduced themselves. Brian Alfers is chair of committee this year. Everyone shared ideas for potential charges for the committee. These include: 

• Promote environmental and sustainability on campus including local biodiversity.
• Promote Green New Deal
• Collaborate with Student Senate and partners in Lawrence surrounding food systems, composting, and applicable environmental programs.
• Reduce waste - composting?
• Work on water use and water efficiency on campus
• Education surrounding sustainability.
• Work with “One day One KU” - reach out to partners to collaborate for education and funding. The committee asked if they could raise money to create an “environmental and sustainability fund” and use towards environmental goals on campus.
• Promote alternative forms of transportation.
• Develop a policy regarding composting. 

Shayla will share the potential charges with SenEx and see if they have suggestions or feedback. 

The committee would like to meet monthly and schedule the meetings monthly for each semester. 

The committee asked if they could raise funds and allocate what they raised for environmental and sustainability initiatives and projects. 

There is often a focus on recycling – what are other ways to reduce waste? The committee would like to collaborate with partners of the Campus Master Plan. 

The committee plans to meet next month and further discuss charges after SenEx has reviewed them.
