New Business —
There has been feedback that the last week of classes is getting filled up with projects, papers, and things that can put students at disadvantage.
The bigger question is USRR 1.3.2: A lot of feedback regarding this part of the policy and it’s difficult to understand.
There is confusion since there can be various permeation of projects, exams, and speeches. It may not be a standard final exam - there have been many questions about what is acceptable.
• It may be good for the University Senate Executive Committee to take another look at this to see if there could be potential changes to the policy around the language.
• Would a flow chart be helpful?
• We could send out a survey to get feedback.
• Previously got feedback from students - but we haven’t done a survey of instructors which may be relevant to understand.
The other piece relates to the calendar itself for the future:
• Calendar Committee is not doing 3-year calendar this year.
• We do not submit to KBOR. This operates in 3-year cycles so next year’s committee would set it through Fall 2028.
There are some potential revisions for Fall 2025 due to Federal Financial Aid and the various short courses that can potentially be overlapping - these courses can’t overlap. This is a no from the government so need to come up with modifications.
The committee discussed potential modifications with Casey Wallace, University Registrar.
Casey will get together with Jean Redeker and will re-align the dates and will bring forward recommendations for breaks and short courses. There are also weekend classes and sometimes those can get missed twice. Casey will let Charlotte know what the next steps are
