Unfinished Business —

Final Exam Survey

The committee reviewed Specific Charge #1 and the survey that was sent to students at the end of the fall semester. They discussed the data as provided by Student Affairs (Office of Undergraduate Studies), as well as limitations to determining whether those with the most classes are most impacted by exams during the last week of classes. Casey Wallace shared that there may be additional data insights that we could get, e.g., correlations between the different questions.

The committee observed that regardless of further correlations, it does seem that a majority of students had exams/projects/assignments during the last week of classes. The committee also discussed the merits of repeating the survey, perhaps this spring or next fall, to get a broader snapshot of the issue.

New Business —

Final Report

Charlotte reviewed the business of the committee throughout the year, which has mainly been focused on reviewing requests for exceptions to calendar regulations.

The final report can also include progress with Specific Charge #1, any suggestions to the exceptions process, and information about OUR’s concern with physical space needs. OUR is still working on the best method for gathering more data on the use of spaces reserved for final exams, though Casey thinks they will review the entire process in the next couple years. Other AAU schools have done similar deep dives into final exam processes.

Next Steps

Charlotte will coordinate with John and Caty on the final report, and Casey will find out about further iterations of the survey.
