Approval of Previous Minutes

Meeting minutes from Oct. 23, 2023. Motion to approve by Jordan Atkinson. Seconded by Hollie Hall. Motion passed unanimously.

Unfinished Business

Joe Walden provided an update on the excused absences policy survey(s) and next steps. The faculty survey has gone out, with collaboration from the University and Faculty Senate Presidents. We are going to be busy in January analyzing the data. The GTA survey will go out soon.

Hollie shared that she has experienced challenges implementing the policy as a GTA. The combination of policy and guidelines is confusing.

Hopefully the data will be illuminating. The committee can decide what sorts of recommendations to provide initially and will then survey again to get suggestions and further input.

New Business

  1. Discuss and vote on inactive program discontinuance requests.
    1. Undergraduate Certificate in Sports Media
      1. There have not been any students enrolled in this program since its inception. The certificate is being replaced by a new concentration in Sports Meda & Society.
      2. Motion to vote by Hollie Hall. Seconded by Weizhang Huang. Motion passed unanimously.
        1. VOTE: 5 in favor; 0 not in favor. Passed.
      3. The AP&P Committee recommends discontinuance of the Undergraduate Certificate in Sports Media.
    2. Graduate Certificate in Social & Emotional Wellness
      1. There have been no students in the program and there is no intent to admit. The school originally planned for GTAs to co-teach the relevant courses, but that did not end up happening. This would impact neither students nor faculty.
      2. The committee discussed that it is challenging to understand the nuances of why these programs have not enrolled students after they were initially approved. Is program development motivated by faculty or student interest? Perhaps the committee could provide a recommendation to SenEx around this issue, asking programs about why they think students didn’t enroll.
      3. Motion to vote by Jordan Atkinson. Seconded by Hollie Hall. Motion passed unanimously.
        1. VOTE: 5 in favor; 0 not in favor. Passed.
      4. The AP&P Committee recommends discontinuance of the Graduate Certificate in Social & Emotional Wellness.
