Welcome to the Office of University Governance

The Governance system at the University of Kansas has been described as a "shared" system of governance.  The University Senate consists of representatives from three constituent senates: Faculty Senate, Student Senate, and Staff Senate.

The Office of University Governance provides staff support to the presidents of the University Senate and the Faculty Senate and their respective executive committees. This office coordinates and facilitates the passage of amendments to the University Senate Code, the University Senate Rules and Regulations, and the Faculty Senate Rules and Regulations through the governance legislative process until approval by the University or Faculty Senate, Provost and the Chancellor.

The Governance Office serves as the initial point of contact and provides support to the University Judicial Board, the Faculty Rights Board, the University Support Staff Disciplinary Action Hearing Board, the FacEx Appeals Committee, the SenEx Basketball Committee, provides interpretation of governance documents (USRR, CODE and FSRR) as well support for more than fifteen standing Governance committees, boards, and task forces.

The University Senate Code (CODE)  details the organization, structure, responsibilities, and membership of Governance committees and boards.  It also describes amendment procedures.

The University Senate Rules and Regulations (USRR) establishes and describes the procedures governing university-wide policy on academic schedules, academic work and evaluation, graduation and degrees, publications, conflict resolution, financial exigency, and program discontinuance.

The Faculty Senate Rules and Regulations (FSRR) establishes and describes the procedures governing university wide-policy on admission to the University, placement examinations; resident and non-resident study, academic work, promotion and tenure procedures, sabbatical leave procedures, confidentiality of official faculty personnel records, and classified research.

University Senate Open Forum

To: Faculty, Staff and Students

Re: Open Forum, 6 December 2018

The University Senate will hold an Open Forum next Thursday, 6 December 2018, 3-5 pm, in Room 1154 of the Integrated Science Building to discuss the university budget cuts and any related concerns affecting faculty, staff, and students. The general intent is to hear from university constituents who have not had the opportunity to share their questions and concerns. Senate officers and representatives will be in attendance, but the forum will maximize commentary from the floor as we seek additional input from the university community.  Questions may also be sent to: Questions/Comments.

When: December 6, 2018, 3:00pm – 5:00 pm
Where: Integrated Science Building, Room 1154 (map)

The forum will be livestreamed via ZOOM technology https://governance.ku.edu/zoom20181206 and ASL interpretation will be provided on-site.  A recap of the meeting, questions asked, and answers given will be subsequently posted on the Governance website.

Respectfully,

Ruben Flores
University Senate President
